What "online" actually means when a machine is involved

Plenty of vendors call a system online because a PC is involved somewhere. The test is simpler: where can you read attendance, and how old is what you see? A genuinely online system has the terminal push each punch to a server as it happens, so the register is current everywhere at once.

Frequently asked questions

How does an online biometric attendance system work?
The terminal verifies the person locally — fingerprint, face or card — and immediately pushes the punch over its internet connection to the cloud server, where it lands in a live register you read from any browser. Enrolment travels the other way: create an employee online and the record is pushed to the terminal. AionHRMS does this with the iClock/ADMS protocol used by eSSL and ZKTeco machines, and Realtime's native protocol.
Can I check attendance on my phone?
Yes — the register is a web application, so a phone browser works anywhere. There is nothing to install on office computers either.
What happens when the internet goes down at the site?
Nothing visible at the gate. Verification is on the device, punches buffer in its memory, and the backlog uploads when the connection returns. An outage delays the register by its own duration and loses nothing.
Is online biometric attendance secure?
The terminal stores mathematical templates, never images; AionHRMS stores those templates centrally, never displays them, and keeps your data on infrastructure in India. Access to the register is by role — a branch admin sees their branch, head office sees everything. You remain the controller of your employees' data; we process it on your instruction.
What is the difference between an online and a cloud attendance system?
In practice they are the same architecture described from two ends: 'cloud' says where the data lives (managed servers instead of your PC), 'online' says how you experience it (live, from anywhere). If a vendor's 'online' system still needs software installed on one computer, it is neither.
Does the machine need a special internet connection?
No — an ordinary broadband or even a mobile hotspot works, and no static IP or VPN is needed. The terminal makes an outbound connection to our server; nothing at your site has to be reachable from the internet.
