The problem with the OEM's free cloud
Manufacturers give away attendance software because it moves hardware, and it works well enough for a customer with one brand of terminal at one site. It stops working the moment that customer buys anything else. Since almost every business accumulates hardware from more than one manufacturer over five or six years, the free cloud has a built-in expiry date — and when it expires, the customer goes looking for a replacement, often from a different dealer.
- OEM software only handles that OEM's devices, by design
- A mixed estate means multiple logins and no combined register
- Free tiers are usually capped by user count or bundled with new-device purchase
- The customer's data lives with the manufacturer, not with you
